Evening Routine

I won’t lie, there are absolutely nights where I am staring at the clock waiting for my husband to come home. The day was long, I lost my patience more than I wanted to, and by the end of it I’m just touched out and counting down the minutes. After way too much trial and error though, I’ve finally found something that works a little better for us.Call it organized chaos. Because let’s be real, it’s never not chaos. I used to bash set dinners and meal plans but honestly, they have saved a part of my mental sanity. My biggest tip, make what you know.. you don’t need to be Rachel Ray on Tuesday, save it for the weekend. I stick to meals that my kids will eat and what I can make with my eyes closed. When I want to try out something new, Saturday’s are my days (and hey! Sometimes those meals end up in my weekly rotation). Another thing I aim to do is the dishes. I hate it, I never want to, but waking up to a clean counter space makes me a nicer person in the morning. If your evenings feel anything like mine, here’s what our nights usually look like. Nothing fancy—just what works for us right now. 4:00–4:30 — Get home & quick reset 4:30 — Start dinner While dinner cooks — laundry / quick tidy After dinner — dishes, sweep + kids play/TV Bath + wind down 7:30 — Bedtime After bedtime — finally sit Truly though, my nights are fast. We get home, make dinner, eat, tidy, kids bath, they get to watch maybe an hour of tv and then it’s bedtime. So if I want anything done I have to be a multitasker.. loading the washing machine while dinner cooks, the dishes while they have tv time. And then once 7:30 hits and they’re finally asleep… I get to sit. And honestly, that quiet moment at the end of the night? It makes the chaos feel a little more manageable. What do your evenings look like right now? Or what part feels the hardest?
