Chilling Out

Posted: May 11, 2026 16:14:49

There’s this quiet pressure that sneaks into motherhood without asking permission. The kind that whispers you should be doing more, planning more, organizing better, enriching every second of your child’s day. It builds slowly through social media, well meaning advice, and the deep love you have for your kids that makes you want to give them everything. But somewhere along the way, it can start to feel like you’re carrying the weight of their entire childhood on your shoulders. Lately, I’ve been thinking about what it really looks like to just… chill out a little as a mom. Not in a careless way. Not in a “I don’t care” way. But in a softer, more trusting way. Letting kids be kids. Letting the living room be messy because a fort is more important than a clean floor. Letting snacks happen outside on the grass instead of perfectly portioned at the table. Letting boredom linger a little longer instead of rushing in to fix it, because that’s usually where imagination shows up. It’s realizing that not every moment needs to be optimized. That a day doesn’t have to be productive to be meaningful. That your kids don’t need a perfectly curated childhood… they need you. Present, relaxed, and not constantly running on empty trying to “do it all right.” I’ve started noticing how different things feel when I ease up on the pressure. When I stop correcting every little thing. When I say yes to getting messy instead of worrying about the cleanup. When I sit down beside them instead of thinking about the ten other things I should be doing. The energy shifts. Not just for them but for me too. There’s more laughter. More connection. More of those small, blink and you miss it moments that don’t look like much from the outside, but somehow feel like everything. Motherhood doesn’t have to be so tightly wound. It’s okay to loosen your grip a little. It’s okay if the routine isn’t perfect, if the house isn’t spotless, if dinner is simple, if the day didn’t go “as planned.” Your kids won’t remember the pressure you put on yourself. They’ll remember how it felt to be around you. So maybe chilling out as a mom isn’t about doing less it’s about holding everything a little lighter. Trusting that you’re already enough. Trusting that your kids are allowed to be loud, messy, curious, emotional, wild little humans. And trusting that in the middle of all that imperfection… you’re doing a really beautiful job. Even on the days that don’t feel like it…
