Holidays as a Mom

Posted: Apr 13, 2026 15:21:01

There’s something about holidays that feels entirely different once you become a mom. Before, they were fun. Something to look forward to, a break in routine, a reason to decorate a little more or indulge a little extra. But now? Now they feel… magical in a way I didn’t fully understand before. It starts in the smallest moments. It’s the way your child’s eyes light up at things you used to overlook; the twinkle of lights, the crinkle of wrapping paper, the simple excitement of a themed cookie. It’s realizing that what once felt ordinary has become something worth pausing for again. As a mom, you don’t just experience the holiday…you create it. You become the one who makes the magic happen. You’re the quiet force behind the traditions, the little surprises, the cozy atmosphere that fills your home. It’s in the early mornings, setting things up before anyone wakes up, or the late nights, finishing touches when the house is finally still. And oddly, instead of that feeling like pressure, it feels like purpose. Because you know deep down that these are the moments your child will remember. The smell of something baking. The way the house feels just a little warmer. The traditions you’re slowly building, even if you don’t realize it yet. There’s also a softness that comes with holidays now. You find yourself slowing down more. Letting go of perfection a little easier. Understanding that it’s not about the perfectly decorated table or the Pinterest-worthy crafts, it’s about the feeling. The laughter. The togetherness. The quiet, in-between moments that no one else sees. And maybe that’s the most magical part of all. Holidays as a mom aren’t about doing more; they’re about feeling more. You feel the nostalgia of your own childhood in a new way. You catch glimpses of it in your child’s excitement, and suddenly everything feels full circle. The things your parents once did for you start to make sense in a way they never have before. It’s emotional, in the most beautiful, unexpected way. And yes, it can be exhausting too. There are messes, overstimulation, sugar crashes, and moments where you just want five minutes to yourself. But even in that, there’s this quiet awareness that this season of life, the little years, the wonder-filled holidays, is fleeting. So you hold onto it just a little tighter. You soak it in a little deeper. Because now you understand! The holidays were never just about the day itself. They were always about the feeling someone created for you. And now, you get to be that someone. And that? That’s where the magic lives.
